Fake image that led to RSS man arrest features at BJP’s Sabarimala event

NEW DELHI: An event organised by Delhi BJP spokesperson has put the party in a spot after it used the photographs of a RSS man arrested on November 5 from Kerala’s Alappuzha district for staging fake image of ‘police action’ at Sabarimala.

According to The New Indian Express, the Sunday’s event organised by Tajinder Bagga for restrictions on entry of women inside Sabarimala temple, was held in front of a large poster Rajesh R Kurup, an Ayyappa devotee dressed black veshti, towel around his shoulders, holding an Ayyappa idol, with a foot of a police officer on his chest.

Stickers with the same image that stirred up a controversy were distributed.

The poster reads: “100 crore Hinduon ki aastha par prahaar band karo (stop the assault on the belief of 100 crore Hindus)”, along with the words #SaveSabarimala.

According to reports, 39-year-old Rajesh, a follower of the RSS staged the photographs showing an Ayyappa devotee being ‘kicked’ by a police officer in an attempt to lodge a protest against the Kerala police. The fake images were soon shared by many social media platforms and stirred up a controversy.

The case was filed under various Sections of IPC following a complaint by a DYFI worker. “Kurup confessed saying he had posted the photos on Facebook to register his protest against police lathicharge on devotees during the agitation at Nilakkal last month. He withdrew them when the photos led to a controversy. By then, the photos had gone viral,” the officer said.

Rajesh has been released on bail.
