Former VC of Jamia Millia Islamia Mushirul Hasan passes away

New Delhi: Former Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Professor Mushirul Hasan passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. The renowned historian and former vice-chancellor Jamia Millia of Islamia breathed his last early on Monday morning. Hasan also served on the posts of director general of the National Archives of India, vice-chairman, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, president of the Indo-Iran Society of the Iran embassy and president of the Indian History Congress.

Besides a number of other awards, Mushirul Hasan won Padma Shri in 2007. He has authored many books including, India Partition: The Other Face of Freedom, When Stone Walls Cry, Partners in Freedom: Jamia Millia Islamia (co-authored with Rakshanda Jalil) and From Pluralism to Separatism: Qasbas in Colonial India.
