As part of the campaign “Keep handmade out of GST’, the Federation of Handloom Organizations is holding a GST free sale of handlooms, on October 1, at ‘Our Sacred Space’, Sardar Patel Road, Secunderabad. A presentation on GST and its threat to the handmade industry will be made at 11 am on the same day at the same venue.
Stating this in a press note here, Latha Tummuru of Federation of Handoom Organizations, said that for the first time since Independence, handloom and handicraft products are being taxed under the GST regime and the products are taxed at different slabts of 5, 12, 18 and 28 per cent. The Federation has started a campaign ‘Keep handmade out of GST’, to protect the rural artisans and producers and handmade production in the country. It has also started an online campaign atwww.change.org for civil society to sign and show their support to hand-made. (NSS)
