Shimla: A major irrigation scheme will be implemented from Lipa to Korla village in remote Kinnaur district with an outlay of Rs 6 crore, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said on Friday.
The state will also sympathetically consider furtherer extending the time of allotting ‘nautor’ land which is ending in December to benefit the tribal people.
‘Nautor’ land means the right to utilize, with the sanction of the authorities, wasteland owned by the government outside towns, reserved and demarcated protected forests and such areas as may be notified by the state government.
Addressing a public meeting at Pooh after laying the foundation stone of the lift irrigation scheme, Thakur said it would irrigate 230 hectares.
The Chief Minister said Kinnaur was not only one of the biggest districts of the state but was also strategically important and, therefore, the state was putting special focus on the development of this area.
He said he himself belongs to a hard and remote area and was well aware of the developmental needs and aspirations of the people of the tribal areas.
He had toured 55 assembly constituencies with the sole objective to gain first-hand knowledge of the developmental needs of the people.
