Hyderabad : As Completion of the current academic year, in view of that All India Council for Technical Education has made induction training mandatory in engineering colleges. As a result, all the first year students will have to undergo a three-week programme which was held for one or two days.

According to Telangana Today article, the induction programme is being held for one or two days by involving students and their parents at the beginning of the academic year. Physical activity, creative arts, moral values, capacity building and anti-ragging measures among others will now be taught to students as part of the training.

The three-week induction programme was actually introduced in IIT and NIT. After its success, it is now being made part of engineering colleges across the country. This apart, agreeing to the long pending demand of private engineering colleges, the AICTE has changed the faculty to student ratio from 1:15 to 1:20.

This apart, land requirement in metro cities have been replaced with built-up area as per the building bye-laws in the city concerned. According to new guidelines of the AICTE, urban land area requirement has been reduced from 2.5 acres to 1.5 acres and rural land area requirement from 7.5 acres to 4 acres.

The apex technical body also reduced the number of adjunct faculty from 20 per cent to 10 per cent.“Adjunct faculty policy was introduced last year by saying that 20 per cent overall faculty can be adjunct. Now they have reduced adjunct faculty to 10 per cent which I believe is a loss to the student community at large,” said Dr. Srini Bhupalam, Vice-President, All India Federation of Self-Financing Technical Institutions.

Meanwhile, the JNTUH has started the process for granting affiliation to private engineering colleges in the State. Accordingly it has constituted an expert committee to fine-tune the process of affiliation. The committee will take a call whether to grant affiliation to courses which had less than 25 admissions.
