New Delhi: Israeli ambassador to India Daniel Carmon termed India’s vote in favour of the Arab resolution against US President Donald Trump’s move to recognise Jerusalem as capital as regrettable. However he said it would not mar Indo-Israeli bilateral relations.
It must be noted that India is the biggest buyer of arms from the Jewish state and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be visiting India at a time when New Delhi has cancelled $500-million deal for Israeli Spike anti-tank missiles.
Though there are reports that the army still wants to purchase Spike anti-tank missiles, however different mode will be adopted. Addressing a press conference days ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to India, Israeli ambassador Daniel Carmon answering a question whether Israel had requested India ahead of voting, Carmon said “There is a lot of importance to votes at the UN,” “it was not unusual for India to approach Israel with requests or Israel to appeal to India ahead of votes at the UN.”
“The votes at the UN have been on the joint agenda of India and Israel. And they will continue to be… sometimes it is India that comes to Israel with a request and sometimes it is Israel that comes to India with the request…We cannot always fulfil those requests,” Carmon said.
