Indonesia: 125 exotic birds rescued from illegal smuggling

Jakarta: nearly 125 exotic birds have been seized on Monday in a wildlife raid by authorities in Indonesia.
The authorities said these exotic birds comprising of 84 Eclectus parrots and 41 endangered white cockatoos were stuffed in drain pipes sealed with wires and were ready to be smuggled to the Philippines.
The authorities have arrested four persons related to the raids. These men if proved guilty will be jailed for up to five years and fined with 100 million Indonesian Rupiah ($7,400).
According to BBC, Indonesia is home to the large-scale illegal trade of birds, many of which find themselves sold in giant avian markets.
