Jalalabad: 4 militants gunned down

Jalalabad: Around four gunmen were killed after they attacked the education directorate compound in Jalalabad in Nangarhar today.

The attack took place at 9:50 am local time after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives outside the education department.

Three other gunmen opened fire and were then gunned down by security forces, Provincial Governor Spokesman Attullah Khogyani said, Tolo News reported.
No casualties have been reported yet but all the attackers have been shot dead, he added.

A vehicle loaded with explosives outside the education department was seized by the security forces after the attack.

The head of the education department Asif Shinwari also confirmed the attack.
The Taliban has not claimed responsibility for the attack.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani had earlier announced a ceasefire with the Taliban starting from the 27th of Ramzan (June 12) to the fifth day of Eid-ul-Fitr (June 19).

In response to Ghani’s announcement, the Taliban on Saturday declared a three-day ceasefire over the Eid holiday, two days after the Afghan government announced the ceasefire.
