New Delhi: The recently appointed J&K governor Satya Pal Malik, according to the sources, is sent to engage talks with estranged Kashmir valley people within the framework of the Constitution.

He was sent with a clear brief to hold talks with anyone who wants to talk but within the framework of the Constitution said government sources, TOI reported.

“This marks a clear shifting of gears by the Centre,” a top government functionary said indicating to why the former Union minister was suddenly posted in Srinagar.

“Bukhari’s killing was a chilling message to those who were ready to give peace a chance. It saddened us and reminded us yet again of the dangers involved but did not deter the Modi government from taking a fresh shot at outreach, this time through a governor who will keep the doors of Raj Bhavan open at all times to anyone who believes in dialogue within the four corners of the Constitution,” the senior official said.

Now Malik was sent out to discharge his duties by the Centre, indicating PM Modiji’s refernce with J&K during the Independence Day speech where he said his focus is on ‘Insaniyath’.

Malik was assigned the job because of his reputation as an able administrator. He is also the first politician to get a governor’s position in J&K with its history of choosing governors among bureaucrats, generals and chiefs of intelligence agencies.

Malik had initially started off as a socialist before joining Congress and later ending up in BJP party.
