NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Nehru University authorities have slapped fines fines between Rs 6,000 and Rs 10,000 on four students for flouting rules of the institution by preparing ‘Biryani’ near the administration block.
Mohammad Amir Malik, a JNU student was fined Rs.6000 on Friday for cooking Biryani near the building in June.
The university notice said, “In a proctorial enquiry, Md Amir Malik, (Registration Number: 2662, Enrolment Number: 13/51/HA/011 and Year of Admission : 2013, an MA student, Centre of Arabic and African Studies, School of Languages, Literature and Culture Studies and a r/o 53, Sabarmati Hostel) have been found guilty of the following act of indiscipline:-
“(i) involved in cooking food (Biryani) near the stairs in front of Administrative Building on 27th June, 2017 and eating it thereafter alongwith other students.”
The notice was issued on November 8 against Amir, stating the cooking of Biryani as “serious in nature and unbecoming of a student of JNU”. However, keeping in mind the student’s career prospects, “the vice chancellor has taken somewhat lenient view.
Amir has also been warned about facing more stringent disciplinary action if he repeats this offence, the notice said.
The order also set a deadline of 10 days for paying the fine, failing which more stringent action would be taken.
“He is directed to deposit the fine within 10 days from the issue of this letter and show the proof thereof to this office.”
Amir is an MA student at the Centre of Arabic and African Studies, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies and stays in the Sabarmati Hostel.
Along with Amir, students — Chepal Sherpa and Manish Kumar — have been fined Rs 6,000 each andformer JNUSU general secretary Satarupa Chakraborty, has been slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 was also found guilty for holding a protest demonstration and slogan shouting in the VC’s office on the same day before cooking ‘Biriyani’.
