Law paper ask ‘Muslim killing cow in front of Hindu an offence’? probe ordered

NEW DELHI: Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into question at the prominent Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) law exam.

The controversial 5-mark question, which was part of the ‘Law of Crimes’ paper for the third-semester LL.B. exam asked the examinee goes as follows:

“Ahmed, a Muslim kills a cow in a market in the presence of Rohit, Tushar, Manav and Rahul, who are Hindus. Has Ahmed committed any offence?”

The image of the question paper of 7th December 2018 went viral immediately after it surfaced on social media and the university has been criticized for such a question.

Supreme Court lawyer Bilal Anwar tweeted had about the question and shared a screenshot of the question paper, tagging the CPJ College, Narela (affiliated to GGSIPU) in the tweet.

“Here is a new normal, De-humanising an entire community, A Law College at Narela, NCR’s Third Semester Question Paper [sic]”, Advocate Bilal Anwar had tweeted.

Anwar had also queried, “Is this what you are making the young legal minds to feel normal about? categorically referring communities in your question papers? [sic].”

Taking cognizance of the incident, the Delhi government directed the Secretary (Higher Education) to initiate an inquiry and sought a status report within five days.

“It is very bizarre and seems to be an attempt to disturb the harmony of society. We won’t tolerate such misconduct. I am ordering an inquiry, and if found true, strongest action will be taken,” Sisodia said, as quoted in the Indian Express report.
