Raipur: After the death of at least 200 cows due to starvation and lack of proper care and medicine in Gaushala run by BJP leader, suspicion rises of smuggling of dead cows’ skin and bones.

According to the news published in News Bits, initial investigation reveals that shelter’s owner might have sold skin of dead cows for fishing activities.

It may be mentioned that in the Gaushala which is located in Durg District of Chhattisgarh, run by BJP leader Harish Verma, at least 200 cows died in the past few days.

According to a report published in The Indian Express, Harish Verma has claimed that his own party’s government has not released the annual grants for maintaining the Gaushala.

Harish Verma who is booked under many sections is being interrogation to check the possibility of smuggling of other cows’ body.

Meanwhile, villagers of Rajpur claimed that in the past, the shelter of Verma had carcasses of cows thrown around on the village outskirts. After receiving the complaint, President of Gauseva Ayog (Cow Protection Commission), Bisesar Patel, Dhamdha SDM, Rajesh Patre and veterinarians visited to inspect the shelter.

Durg Additional Collector Sanjay Agrawal said, “In the last three days, 27 cows were reported to have died of unknown reasons in the gaushala of Rajpur. Around 500 bovines were housed in the government-aided shelter home.”

After shifting cows, President of the Commission filed a police complaint in the matter.

It may be noted that since 2010, Shagun Gaushala has received over Rs 93 lakh as a grant for maintenance which was not utilized properly. This led to the starvation of cows.
