Hyderabad: There is a rampant business of making adulterated oil going on in Hyderabad. This adulterated oil is being made from melting animal fat of buffaloes, sheep and also cattle carcass.
Police say that this business is thriving in old city part of Hyderabad, especially in areas like Jiyaguda, Sabzi Mandi, Ramnaspura, Gowlipura and Golconda.
According to the news reported in Telangana Today, Police had recently arrested Mohammed Ghouse on charges of melting animal fat and then processing it to extract oil.
The oil extracted from the animal fat and cattle carcass is being supplied to road side eateries which prepare junk food and also to other food joints in the city. The road side eateries also prefer to buy this adulterated oil due to its cheap price as compared to prices of branded oil.
A kilogram of adulterated oil costs Rs 25, whereas the market price of any branded oil costs between Rs 80 to Rs 100 per kilogram.
Police say that there are agents who collect animal fat and cattle carcass from the slaughter houses and supply it to local oil processing units daily. The collected material is kept dried in sun for days, thus polluting environment. After this, it is processed to extract oil and then supplied to local eateries.
Doctors say that such oil is very harmful to health and damages digestive system, liver, and human heart. It also blocks blood vessels and increases the level of bad cholesterol.
