Muslim women groups protest demanding entry in Mumbai’s Haji Ali dargah

Mumbai: Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding entry of female devotees in sanctum sanctorum of Shani Shingnapur temple, the Muslim women in Mumbai have also initiated protest targeting the authorities of Haji Ali Dargah.

The protesters, linked to Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, have demanded the Dargah clergy and authorities to uplift the regressive ban prohibiting women from entering the holiest spot of the shrine.

Several activists belonging to Muslim women groups held protest with placards demanding entry in Haji Ali Dargah.

The trustees of Haji Ali Dargah had told the court earlier that entry of women in close proximity to the grave of a male Muslim saint is considered as a grievous sin in Islam.
