Nir Hefetz, one of Benjamin Netanyahu’s closest confidants will give Israeli cops recordings of conversations between the prime minister and his wife under a deal he cut with Israeli authorities, a new report said Monday.
Nir Hefetz is also known as Netanyahu’s “spin doctor.” According to an Israeli newspaper Haaretz, he will also testify against Netanyahu in several ongoing corruption investigations.
Hefetz who himself is suspected of receiving bribes and obstructing justice, will not stand trial, face prison time or be fined, in return for his testimony.
It must be noted that two other former Netanyahu confidants, including ex-chief of staff Ari Harow and Sholmo Filber, former director general of the Communications Ministry under Netanyahu, already turned against him.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu is visiting the United States over the weekend as Washington was gearing up for the annual conference of AIPAC, the powerful pro-Israel lobby. He planned to hold a meeting and working lunch with Trump before speaking at the conference later in the week. The Trump family has legal problems of its own. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and point man for the Middle East, is under intense scrutiny over his business dealings as special counsel Robert Mueller barrels forward with his Russia probe.
