New 100 rupee coin will have this minister’s image

NEW DELHI: The Centre is to set to introduce a new Rs 100 rupees coin.

As reported by NDTV citing an official statement, the soon to be launched new coin will have an image of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The coin will weigh 35 grams and will carry Vajpayee’s name. Beneath the name, years –1924 and 2018 inscribed in Devnagari as well as in English.

The years 1924 and 2018 are his birth and death years.

On the flip side of the coin will be the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with “Satyameva Jayate” inscribed below in Devanagari script along with “Bharat” on its left while the right side will have ‘India’ inscribed in English.

At the bottom of the backside, rupee symbol and the denominational value of 100 will be written.

Vajpayee passed away on August 16 this year at the age of 93.

He had served as prime minister as many as three times. He was Prime Minister for 13 days in mid-1996 when he was forced to resign ahead of the confidence vote for which he did not have the numbers.

Vajpayee again became the Prime Minister in March 1998 but his government fell 13 months later on the floor of the Lok Sabha losing by one vote in the confidence motion after AIADMK headed by the late J.Jayalalithaa withdrew support to the BJP.

The BJP government headed by Vajpayee returned to power in 1999 and completed its full term till 2014.
