NRC casts shadow over Eid, no celebration for family of Kargil war hero Sanaullah

NEW DELHI: The family of Kargil war veteran Honourary Captain (retd), Mohammed Sanaullah did not celebrate Id-ul-Fitr as the ex-army man was taken to the detention centre on May 28 after a Foreigners’ Tribunal declared him a foreign national on May 23.

Almost 30 years of married life, this is for the first time that Samina Begum, the wife of Sanaullah did not celebrate the Eid as her husband was sent to detention centre.

“I observed ‘Roza’ (religious fast) for the past month but while others celebrated Eid there was nothing for us to celebrate. My husband is in detention and we are at home. We just offered prayers to Allah for his well being and quick return,” Begum told Hindustan Times reports.

Md.Sana Ullah, a resident of Guwahati, was detained from his house in Satgaon by the police on Tuesday after the Tribunal at Boko passed the order declaring him as a foreigner and sent him to detention camp.

Ullah, a genuine Indian citizen who had served in the Indian Army for 30 years and upon retirement as Honorary Captain in 2017 took up a job with the Assam Police as a Sub Inspector in the Border Branch.

The ex-soldier’s family did not go to the detention centre to meet him on eid as they are expecting his release before eid but get disappointment because they made appointment with the future of his early release.

“We were planning elaborate celebrations for Eid this time. I was expecting him to be released before Eid, but it is not in my fortune. We haven’t cooked anything at home. A neighbour sent some eatables, but no one feels like eating” said Begun, between sobs, reported HT.
