Odisha: Minor six-year-old raped by 25 YO man

Bhubaneswar: Since the brutal Kathua rape and crime has made the headlines inviting nationwide outrage, rapes of minor children have reportedly risen by many folds with the latest one reported from Odisha’s Cuttack district where a minor six-year-old was strangulated and left after being raped.

The incident came to light after the 25-year-old culprit from the same village left in hurry assuming the six-year-old minor dead after strangulating her in Jagannathpur village of Cuttack district on Sunday according to the police, TOi reported.

The family members raised alarm when the girl who went out to buy biscuits for herself did not return after some time while the power was out in the village.

“After a frantic search for over an hour, the girl was found lying unconscious and without clothes inside the school campus with blood oozing from her head and mouth,” said the police.

The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby private nursing home from which she was later on shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, said the Sub-divisional Police officer P K Jena.

According to the reports from the attending doctors, the victim is in very critical condition and has suffered from deep injuries on her private parts, head, face, neck and chest.

The Police the culprit has been arrested.

State Health Minister Pratap Jena also visited the hospital and also told the media persons a tema of 13 doctors are attending the girl.

“The state government is bearing the entire cost of the treatment and the girl is under the special care of medicine specialists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, surgeons and radiologists in the ICU of trauma pediatric unit of the hospital,” the minister said.

The police has filed a case of rape and attempt to murder under the Pocso Act and IPC sections 376(2)(rape) and 307 (attempt to murder) after the victim’s grandfather filed a written complaint against the culprit said Salepur police inspector D K Mallick said.

In another case reported from Kendrapara district, a minor boy was taken into custody for raping a four-year-old girl.

Both the victim and the boy were medically examined and the sexual assault was confirmed, the police said.
