Pakistan: Meet Harmeet Singh, first Sikh Anchor

Karachi: Pakistan will have its first ever Male Sikh Anchor- Harmeet Singh to represent its news channel after Manmeet Kaur who recently became the first Sikh woman reporter in Pakistan.

Harmeet Singh is a resident of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s Chakesar city, has been hired by Public News channel as its news Anchor. Mr Singh’s family is based in Pakistan, NDTV reported.

The official handle of the new channel tweeted: “Pakistan’s 1st Sikh News Anchor Harmeet Singh only on #PublicNews.”

Speaking about his appointment, Mr Singh said he had always been inclined towards Pakistani media industry. He had completed his masters in Journalism from Federal Urdu University Karachi.

“I didn’t use any religion card to gain access in the media industry. I worked hard before I got any recognition,” he added.

Public News Channel head Yousaf Baig Mirza, said Mr Singh was chosen as the news anchor for his good personality and voice.

He started his career as a news reporter after completing his education.
