A Pakistani Hindu man arrested, accused of spreading blasphemy on WhatsApp

Lahore: A 35-year-old Hindu man was arrested by Pakistan Police for sharing profane content on WhatsApp which is a sensitive issue in Pakistan. Prakash Kumar was arrested on Wednesday from the Balochistan province.

After his arrest, a mob protested in front of the police station at Hub in Lasbela district, the protesters demanded Kumar be handed over to them in order to punish him. The protesters pelted stones and injured several policemen, HT reported.

Officials informed that police fired in the air and used teargas to disperse the mob. Twenty suspected protesters were arrested and the police are in search of the others.

“Prakash, (the son of) Prem Chand has been arrested after local people accused him of blasphemy,” police official Zia Mandokhel said. A case was lodged and his phone was seized. He was then sent to Gaddani Central jail after further interrogation.

In another such case, a mob lynched Mashal Khan of 23 years over allegations of blasphemy. He was shot and beaten to death in presence of policemen. Sixty-five people have been killed by the mob since 1990 in Pakistan, as per the reports of Center for Research and Security Studies.
