Para-athletes cry foul over mismanagement

Panchkula (Haryana): Para-athletes, who have come to participate in the 16th Senior Para National Athletics Meet in Haryana’s Panchkula, have complained about substandard facilities being provided to them.

Players, particularly on wheelchairs, have said they have been facing troubles due to lack of facilities and mismanagement.

“There are fewer facilities here and more than that there is a lot of mismanagement that has caused trouble. The washrooms are on the first floor where our wheelchairs cannot go so this has led to some hardships,” a para-athlete Jaspreet told ANI.

Another para-athlete from Bihar said, “The problems faced by the athletes here is not due to lack of facilities but mismanagement. The tuning here [between officials and players] is missing. Otherwise, the facilities like food are worth appreciating.”

However, state’s Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said that he had no information regarding the situation and not received any complaints in connection with the same matter.

The five-day meet will begin at Tau Devi Lal Stadium on March 26. (ANI)
