Question mark on judicial impartiality a threat to democracy: Justice Suhail Ejaz Siddiqui

New Delhi: Expressing shock and worry over the revelation of injustice in the apex court which is said the temple of justice, former Secretary General Justice Suhail Ejaz Siddiqui said question mark on judicial impartiality is a threat to democracy. Justice Siddiqui said I have been registrar general in the Supreme Court and I know how judiciary works. I have worked under very honest chief justice M. N. Venkatachaliah and used to propose bench on his direction. He said the most sensitive and national-interest cases were either heard by Chief Justice himself or would assign them to 2nd or 3rd number Justices. Sensitive cases were never assigned to junior judges.

Justice Siddiqui said he never formed a bench on his own choice nor had soft corner in any matter. He said national-interest cases directly affect people. If the judgement goes wrong there is a fear that people will lose trust in judiciary.

He said all judges were equal in the eyes of Justice Venkatachaliah, he would never discriminate. He said in my times senior judges were never ignored.
