Rahul bats for ‘special status’ to Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi [India]: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday batted for special status to Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress President announced this after he joined a protest at Jantar Mantar demanding ‘Special Status’ for Andhra Pradesh. Members of Parliament (MPs) of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) staged the protest.

Rahul told the TDP and YSRCP MPs that the Congress party is in favour of granting special status to Andhra Pradesh and if it comes to power in 2019, it would ensure the same.

Later, he tweeted that the united opposition can force the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led union government to do justice to the people of Andhra.

“This afternoon I joined the protests at Jantar Mantar demanding “Special Status” for Andhra Pradesh. It is my belief that if the opposition stands united on this issue, we can force the BJP Govt to do justice to the people of Andhra,” Rahul tweeted.

While the TDP is ruling party in Andhra Pradesh and a part of ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at Centre, the YSRCP is the main opposition party in Andhra Pradesh. (ANI)
