Raids on ‘The Quint’: Threat to media, says Chidambaram

Hyderabad: Govt. of India is targeting media for raising their voice against it. The recent example of it is the raids of IT Officials on ‘The Quint’. Mr Chidambaram commented on this saying that had the IT Officials any doubt about the profits and investments of the organization, they could have issued a notice to present the statement of accounts. Instead of doing this, Income Tax Officials raided the house of the owner of Quint and his offices.

Mr Chidambaram told that during the tenure of office of Mr Modi as PM, many honest journalists who were working as editors were dismissed.

He further said that it becomes difficult for honest journalists to point out the irregularities committed by the Govt. since they are afraid of doing it.

Mr Chidambaram pointed out that ‘The Quint’ had exposed the failure of the Govt. on account of demonetization and GST. It is a threat to the media persons that they should refrain from criticizing the Govt. or be prepared to face the consequences.
