Jaipur: The Rajasthan Congress on Saturday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against BJP President Amit Shah accusing him of flouting the model code of conduct by “provoking voters against the opposition party” in the poll-bound state during his recent Bikaner rally.
The Congress also filed a complaint against State Minister Srichand Kriplani and BJP MLA Ramhet Yadav.
State Congress Committee spokesperson Sushil Sharma said that Shah during his Bikaner rally asked the people to “hold opposition leaders by their collar” when they visit their place seeking votes.
“They should not be allowed to enter your villages,” Sharma quoted Shah as saying (vipakshi party ke neta aye to unka collar pakad lena; unko gaon men ghusne nahi dena)”.
“Such statements are an assault on democracy and violate the model code of conduct,” said Sharma, adding such remarks raise possibility of disturbing peace during elections.
Another complaint was made against state Minister Kriplani, a BJP candidate from Nimbahera.
“He threatened people to commit suicide if they fail to vote him,” Sharma said.
“As he is trying to seek votes by threatening people, it is yet again a violation of the model code of conduct. A complaint has been filed against Kriplani,” said Sharma.
The Rajasthan Congress also filed complaint against BJP MLA Ramhet Yadav, the party’s candidate from Alwar’s Kishangarh Bas, for making a statement in contempt of a Supreme Court order.
Yadav in a video was seen seeking votes by telling people that “it is Ramhet Yadav’s ‘sarkar’ due to which loaded tractors are plying otherwise these vehicles are not allowed on roads.”
