Rajasthan: Failing to give birth to male child, woman set on fire by in-laws

Barmer: Failing to give birth to a baby boy, a woman in Jaisalmer was set on fire on Friday said the Police.

The victim’s father alleges that her daughter Devyani who was married to Gopal Krishan of Bhikholai village Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district was set on fire after she failed to give her in-laws a male child, HT reported.

The SHO Bhakhara Ram, Falsund police station, said the woman suffered from nearly 95% burn injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.

“As the case was critical, doctors referred her to Jodhpur, where she died on Friday,” said the official.

The victim’s woman father Kanihyalla Gill, lodged a case against her daughter’s in-laws on Thursday also alleged that the family was also planning their son’s second wedding.

“They have killed my daughter in a planned conspiracy,” said the father.

Bhakhara Ram said, “On the basis on an initial report, we lodged a case under sections 307 and 498A of IPC, but after she died at MDM hospital in Jodhpur, it has been converted to a murder case; we have added section 302.”

So far no arrests have been made but the Police lodged the case against Gopal Krishan and his parents Rukma Devi and Lachhi Ram.
