Rally in support of terror suspect Vaibhav Raut

MUMBAI: Around 1,500 to 2,000 people poured out on the streets of north Mumbai’s Nallasopara suburb on Friday in support of the arrested Mumbai terror suspect and Hindutva activist Vaibhav Raut.

The protesters participated against Mumbai ATS included his relatives, friends, Nallasopara residents and members of the Gaurakshak Samiti and Sanatan Sanstha.

Sympathisers of Raut wore T-shirts with Mr. Raut’s image on it and shouted slogans like Vaibhav Raut Zindabad, Vande Mataram, Jai Shree Ram, Vaibhav Par Jhoote aarop nahi sahege Vaibhav Raut Amar Rahe causing traffic jams on the streets.

Raut, 40, a real estate agent was a member of the Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, was detained August 9 after his residence was raided by a team of Maharashtra ATS officials.

During the raid, officials seized 20 crude bombs with material to make more bombs and 11 country-made pistols from his residence and a nearby shop.

Speaking to ANI, lawyer Sanjiv Punalekar, said Raut was quite active against cow slaughter, Love Jihad and illegal loudspeakers at Mosques.

In addition to Raut, the ATS also arrested Sudhanva Gondhalekar of Satara and Sharad Kalaskar of Aurangabad and have been booked them under terror-related provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA)
