Relatives bring Swords, Knives at Counselling Centre, Police arrests 9

Mumbai: As many as ten people including two policemen and four women constables were injured in a brawl at a Counselling session when the relatives of a couple landed with swords and knives at the Central Police Station.

The Police has arrested nine people and sent them to Police custody, HT reported.

According to the reports, a couple named Vikash Shirsat aged 26, who works with a private company, married 24-year-old Neha Murtadkar last year.

Though their marriage was a love marriage, the couple fought on daily basis said the Police.

Senior Police Inspector V Dolas said: “It was a love marriage. However, they fought almost every day. For the last few months, Neha has been living with her family at Badlapur.”

Vikas claims that he made numerous attempts to convince his wife but she never responded said Police.

“Vikas had recently approached the Women’s Welfare Centre for help with his marriage. He and his wife were called for counselling, but their relatives also accompanied them,” said the senior officer.

But it was during counselling session of the couple, the questions asked led to the heated argument between the couple.

“As they were arguing, their relatives entered the centre and few ran to their homes and came back with swords and knives. When women police tried to stop the couple, they pushed the policewomen, while others rushed to their aide. However, they too were pushed and abused, and their clothes were torn,” said another police officer from Thane commissionerate.

However, the Police sprung into action and controlled the situation.
Another officer said, “We arrested nine people and lodged a case against them.”

The Police has lodged a case against the nine under relevant sections.The nine arrested have been identified as Samir Changle, 24, Sachin Murtadkar, 21, Yogesh Murtadkar, 24, Rahul Murtadkar, Mahesh Karpe, 36, Vikas Shirsat, 26, Akash Shirsat, 24, Bandu Shirsat, 36, and Amol Shirsat, 28.
