KARACHI: Cricketer-turned-politician and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan fumbled while taking oath as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan on Saturday.

Clad in a black sherwani, Khan, during his oath ceremony was supposed to speak in Urdu, and he misread “roz-e-qayadat” (the day of leadership), instead of “roz-e-qayamat” (the day of judgement).

Imran Khan was elected as Prime Minister three weeks after his PTI party won the highest number of seats in the July 25 general election.

Wearing a blue suit and a pink turban, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu from India attended Imran’s oath ceremony. Khan was accompanied by his wife third wife Bushra Imran, who was clad in burkha from head-to-heels.

High-profile guests including outgoing caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan and Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi were in attendance.

Other notable guests present include former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, cricketer-turned-commentator Rameez Raja, legendary paceman Wasim Akram, newly-elected Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, singers Salman Ahmed and Abrarul Haq, actor Javaid Sheikh, former National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza and senior PTI leaders.
