Rs 1 crore for Muharram festival: Mahmood Ali

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali today said all arrangements will be made for peaceful conduct of Muharram Festival across the State on September 21. For the purpose, the State Government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for repair of Ashurkhanas in the State. On the 10th day, elephant Rajani will be used for procession from Bibi-Ka-Alam.

Talking to media persons at the Secretariat after holding discussions with religious leaders and officials concerned here, the Deputy Chief Minister said the law and order was the key for smooth conduct of the event as a large number of people would participate in the festivities. Muharram festival is significant as Hindus too participate in the age-old festival, he said, adding that if necessary more funds will be spent for fine tuning the Ashurkhanas. Hindus will be invited to the festivities as 80 per cent of them celebrate it in the villages, he said.
