Salman Khan to contest election from Congress ticket? here’s what he said

NEW DELHI: As the general elections which are due in April-May are approaching, there were reports that Bollywood actor Salman Khan will be contesting election from Congress ticket. However, he denied the reports.

The 53-year-old actor took to Twitter and said “Contrary to the rumours I am not contesting elections nor campaigning for any political party,” Salman Khan tweeted.

Earlier the Madhya Pradesh Congress requested the actor to campaign for the party in Indore. Salman Khan was born in Indore’s Palasia area in 1965 and has spent a substantial part of his childhood there before moving to Mumbai.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath said Khan will promote tourism and heritage in the state. Presenting the report card of his 76-days tenure, the Chief Minister said: “As Salman Khan hails from Indore in M-P, I spoke to him on the phone and asked him if he would help the state.” Nath said Khan’s reply was: “Sure!”.

Salman Khan will work in the areas of tourism and heritage and will be in the state from April 1 to 18,” said Kamal Nath.

Salman Khan has a massive following in the country and is considered as a crowd puller. He, however, remains away from politics. According to the PTI report, he had participated in a roadshow organised by Congress’s mayoral candidate in 2009.

In 1989, the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan defeated former chief minister and senior Congressman Prakash Chandra Sethi in 1989 and since the BJP has held Indore seat.
