SC: Aadhar related urgent hearing today

New Delhi: The Apex Court on Thursday has agreed to hear the petition filed challenging the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar Act today after the counsel for the petitioner has sought an urgent hearing of the matter.

Stating that similar pleas were already listed for hearing in the Supreme Court on Friday the matter was mentioned before a Bench headed by Justice J Chelameswar.

The counsel for the petitioner has sought an urgent hearing.

Petitioner Mathew Thomas has approached the apex court challenging the constitutional validity of the Act, claiming that making Aadhar mandatory will infringe the Right to Privacy, adding that the biometric mechanism is also not working properly.

Chief Justice Dipak Misra on 30 October had said a Constitution Bench would be constituted and Aadhaar-related matters would come up for hearing before it in the last week of November.
