‘Second-most destructive quake in S Korea was triggered by geothermal power plant’

Seoul: The second-most destructive earthquake of South Korea’s Pohang in 2017 was triggered by an experimental geothermal power plant, said the government on Wednesday.

The earthquake, that had left many injured and at least 2000 homes destroyed, was measured at 5.8 magnitudes on the Richter scale.

After the quake, the South Korea government constituted a team to probe the cause. In its report, the team of experts announced that the tremors were caused by efforts to harness energy from the ground.
