Sensex extends 5th straight session’s gains, up 250 points

Mumbai: The key equity indices extended its fifth straight session of gains as Sensex advanced over 250 points and the Nifty traded over 10,850 on Monday.

Finance stocks, the index pivotal, traded higher. Oil and gas metal, power and energy stocks gained over 1 per cent.

At 1.28 p.m., the Sensex traded 255.46 points higher at 36,218.39 points and the Nifty50 traded 61.60 points higher at 10,867.05 points, from the previous close.

Last week, the expectation of lower interest rates with further liquidity infusion by the Reserve Bank of India under its new chief along with healthy macroeconomic data points pushed up the key equity indices.
