MUMBAI: A branch manager along with a peon was booked for allegedly demanding sexual favours from a farmer’s wife for clearance of the loan application, police said on Friday.
According to media reports, the incident happened in Maharashtra’s Amravati district when the woman along with her husband had visited the Datala branch of Central Bank of India seeking a crop loan.
Rajesh Hiwase, the branch manager sought the woman’s contact details on the pretext of processing the loan and allegedly used obscene language. He then asked for sexual favours to clear a crop loan application.
He then sent the peon Manoj Chavan to the farmer’s house to get her to agree to his demands.
The woman had recorded the telephonic conversation of the bank manager and while lodging a complaint submitted it before the police as evidence.
A case has been registered against the duo under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and further probe was underway.
“The bank authorities have informed us that they have suspended both the employees on the basis of the FIR,” Deputy Superintendent of Police, Girish Bobde told The Indian Express.
No arrest has yet been made as Hiwase and his accomplice are currently on the run.
