‘Slap on the face of BJP’: Congress on SC Aadhaar ruling

The Supreme Court today struck down Section 57 of Aadhaar Act which permitted private parties to avail Aadhaar data and ruled that Aadhaar authentication data cannot be stored for more than six months.

A group of private companies had earlier this year appealed to the apex court seeking continuity for Aadhaar – the country’s citizen identity programme, aadhaar was initially meant for availing government schemes but every government/ private entity started demanding Aadhar making it mandatory.

Right after the verdict the Congress national spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.said, the de-linking of Aadhaar from private entities is a ‘slap on the face of BJP.

He further added that “If the information of a person’s personal information is sought to be released, he or she shall have an opportunity to be heard. SC rightly appreciated brilliant idea in origin; protected its core; promoted its development and eliminated its flotsam & jetsam.
