Slippers from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ finally return home

Washington: FBI has finally recovered the pair of ruby slippers from the classic 1939 film ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

According to FBI, the slippers were recovered during a summer sting operation, 13 years after they disappeared from a Minnesota museum, Variety reported.

Jill Sanborn, a special agent in charge of the Minneapolis Division of the FBI, said that Dorothy’s slippers are a treasured piece of Americana, and that they are hoping members of the public can help them better fill in the details that will finish the script of this mystery so they can hold accountable all those who were behind the scheme.

The shoes carried an insurance of 1 million USD and an additional 1 million USD was offered by an anonymous donor for their safe return.

FBI on Tuesday claimed that the theft was an attempt to extort the Markel Corporation, the owner of the slippers.

The timing could not be better since Warner Bros. are currently working on an animated adaptation of ‘Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of the Wizard of Oz’.
