SP and RLD likely to contest together against BJP in Kairana, Noorpur Bypolls

Lucknow: After facing a massive defeat in Gorakhpur and Phulpur bypolls, Bharatiya Janata Party may again face a joint opposition in Kairana and Noorpur bypolls, that is scheduled on May 28. A closed-door meeting had held on Friday between vice president of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Jayant Chaudhary and Samajwadi Party National president Akhilesh Yadav to ponder upon the alliance.

After a three-hour long meeting, the spokesperson of RLD, Anil Dubey confirmed that both the parties will be contesting in the upcoming bypolls and 2019 Lok Sabha polls together, says a report by News18. According to the sources and senior leaders, the candidate for Noorpur and Kairana bypolls can be announced in a couple of days.

On the other hand, Congress leader Raj Babbar said “Although Congress has a good support base in Kairana, the party will like the opposition to put up a joint candidate against BJP. This will be better than showing individual strength in by-elections.”

Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati said that the party is unlikely to field any candidate in the bypolls.
