States want centre to offer free PG Education to girls: Srihari

Cabinet Advisory Board on Education (CABE) Chairman and Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today proposed that the Centre should offer free and intensive education to girls up to post-graduation.

Chairing a CABE meeting here today along with members Jharkhand Education Minister Niraja Yadav, Assam Education Minister Himantha Bishwa Sharma, Central Human Resources special secretary Reena Roy, Member-Secretary Minakshi Garg and officials, Srihari discussed on several issues related to providing education to the girls up to PG level and improving facilities.

After the meeting, Srihari said they will submit an interim report to the Centre by January 16 and full report by the end of January or February first week. The CABE meeting decided unanimously to make recommendations to the Centre, including special universities for women in every State, Gurukul Schools for girls on the lines of SC, STs in Telangana, extend KGBVs education to Intermediate from VIII class, increase model schools student number to 200 from 100, health kits for health and hygiene. He also stressed the need for replicating Telangana model of introducing degree residential colleges, Gurukuls for SC, ST girls across the nation. These type of education institutions across other States will prove handy for building a new society with educated women for achieving growth, Srihari said.

Earlier, CABE held meetings thrice in Gauhati, New Delhi, Bhubaneshwar and fourth one in Hyderabad. The next meeting will be held in New Delhi on January 15 and 16. Srihari stated that the Centre has to provide free and intensive education to girls up to PG level, provide better facilities with toilets, create academic atmosphere. “We will compile final report with 10 to 15 best policies of various States to provide better standards in the colleges”, he said. Biswa Sharma said they will submit a final report to the Centre urging it to address the problems of the girls with needed steps. The report will include better proposals to address the issues, he said. Niraja Yadav said they will focus on to make true Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bethi Bachavo Bethi Padhao slogan. (NSS)
