Hyderabad: The city Police’s raid at Telangana Irrigation department chief engineer’s residence over his wealth allegations found Rs 10 crores worth of assets in his bank lockers and home.
The wealth found at Suresh Kumar’s residence was far more than his income according to reports published in Newsnation.
The police conducted the raid at Kumar’s residence in Somajiguda who has been in the irrigation department for the past 30 years.
However, the chief engineer dismissed the allegations by state anti-corruption bureau and said the cash and jewellery found in his residence belonged to his son and daughter, who live abroad.
He also claimed he does not own anything more than Rs 10 lakhs. Mr Kumar is due to retire next year in 2019.
Similar raids were conducted at Kumar’s relatives residences in Karimnagar and Prodattur in Cuddapah district.
“Raids were carried out at six locations in Hyderabad and Karimnagar. There were complaints that Suresh Kumar has two flats, two houses, ten plots and four bank lockers,” Kiran Kumar, a senior officer of the anti-corruption bureau told.
Another senior official of the same department was found to have illegal assets worth crores of rupees in early January.
The anti-corruption Bureau has conducted raids on for locations and confiscated two houses, five plots, 33 acres of agricultural land, three vehicles from the officials house.
