Three arrested by Maharashtra ATS sent to 7-day police custody

Pune: Three people arrested by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly storing suspicious material have been sent to police custody till August 18.

The ATS also recovered 20 crude bombs, four electronic detonators, 22 nonelectric detonators and other materials from Nala Sopara area of Pune.

The three suspects were arrested on August 10, including Vaibhav Raut, a member of the Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.

During the raid, officials recovered suspicious material from Raut’s residence and a nearby shop.

Taking note of the incident, Congress leader P. Chidambaram slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Maharashtra.

He asked why the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP were not condemning those who are plotting and planning terror attacks.

“Hindu, Muslim or any other religion, radicalism is radicalism. Terror is terror. There is no purpose in burying one’s head in the sand,” he tweeted. (ANI)
