Triple talaq bill violation of Criminal Law: Dr. Faizan Mustafa

Hyderabad: Legal experts are strongly opposing the proposed triple talaq bill to be introduced by the centre. Several experts have raised objections on the draft bill prepared by the government and termed it as violation of criminal laws.

Commenting upon the draft bill, Faizan Mustafa, vice chancellor of Nalsar University of Law, declared it destructive and damaging. He said though the centre is adamant to pass the bill but the question is how can you identify such thing as crime when the other person has not been harmed physically. This matter is not appropriate for criminal justice system. Since the triple talaq crime is an oral matter it is difficult to prove.

Prof. Mustafa said criminal law would not help in social reformation. He said several experts and even Supreme Court have identified that triple talaq cases are very less in the country. Centre disclosed that only 67 cases of triple talaq have come to the fore, of which 2 are from Hyderabad.

Prof. Faizan Mustafa urged the centre to create awareness instead of punishing the men.
