UP: Mr. Chandrashekar Azad, Chief of Bhim Army decided not to contest against PM, Mr. Narendra Modi from Varanasi Parliamentary constituency.
He took this decision to avoid splitting of Dalit votes in the constituency.
According to the report published in Scroll.in, Ms. Mayawati had termed him BJP agent and blamed that he is dividing Dalit votes. Reacting on her remark, Mr. Azad said that despite her comment, he wishes to see her as the Prime Minister of India.
Mr. Azad further made it clear that he will support BSP-SP alliance if it fields Mr. Satish Chandra Mishra for the Varanasi seat.
It may be mentioned that earlier, Mr. Azad had claimed that Bhim Army is the real well-wisher of Dalits.
It may be noted that the polling in the constituency will be held on 19th May and the results will be declared on 23rd May.
It is a western Uttar Pradesh based Dalit organization which stands for the rights of Dalits.
It may be recalled that in 2017, Mr. Azad was arrested after caste based violence which took place in Saharanpur, UP. Later, he was released in the month of September 2018.
