Kochi: Yemeni student, Islam Hussein (21) regained vision at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Kochi, Kerala. He had lost his sight in a mine explosion in September last year.
According to the report published in Hindustan Times, apart from sight, he had also lost his hands after he accidentally stepped on a mine in Yemen. The mine was laid by groups.
It is also reported that after the operation, the victim failed to control his emotions and hugged the doctors who performed the 8-hour long surgery on his left eye.
After regaining vision, Islam said that he had lost all hopes. He also said that it is his rebirth. He is thankful to Indian doctors who performed the surgery. The victim further said he also wants to become a doctor and treat persons who lose all hopes.
It may be mentioned that the surgery was performed by a team led by Dr Anil Radhakrishnan. Talking about the victim’s right eye, Dr. Radhakrishnan said that it was beyond any recovery.
Dikshara Hussein, mother of the victim said that her son’s life was changed after the explosion. She further said that her son’s hands and legs were injured in the blast. He also lost vision in the incident. After the incident, the victim’s hands were amputated at a hospital in Egypt due to infection.
In the month of December 2017, the victim along with his parents arrived at AIMS, Kochi. Earlier, plastic surgery on his foot was done in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
