Wakf lands scam: Rs. 35 lakh bribe offered for the release of NOC

Hyderabad: A major scam in Wakf Board was busted when the persons who offered bribe to Wakf Board Officials made a confession statement to Chairman of Wakf Board.

According to the details, on 26th May, NOC was issued for declaring wakf lands as non-wakf property. The NOC was issued with the signature of the then CEO of Wakf Board, Mr. M.A. Mannan Farooqui.

Siasat Urdu Daily had exposed this scam for the first time after which investigations were started but there was no result. It was being contended that the signature of the CEO is fake but forensic report proved it to be original.

After receiving forensic report, Wakf Board cancelled gazette notification. The persons who had paid bribe lost the land for which money was given.

Vexed with this, they came forward and confessed that they had given Rs. 35 lakh bribe in this case. They also mentioned that Rs. 25 lakh was paid to Mr. Mannan Farooqui and Rs. 10 lakh to the broker.

It may be noted that Wakf Board had issued NOC declaring 4 acre and 5 gunta wakf land belonging to Dargah Hazrat Meer Mehmood as private. This land is located at Malkajgiri.

The then CEO of Wakf Board, Mr. Mannan Farooqui had issued NOC and a letter to Collector, Malkajgiri for deleting three survey numbers from the wakf list. The Dept. of Printing and Stationary had also issued a new gazette notification in which these survey numbers of wakf lands were deleted.

After the publication of the news in Siasat, Wakf Board had registered a complaint with the police. The then CEO had contradicted that his signature was obtained keeping him in the dark.

The affected party confessed before the Chairman of Wakf Board, Mr. Mohammed Saleem that they had given Rs. 35 lakh bribe.

Mr. Saleem directed them to appear before the members of the Wakf Board in the meeting to be held on Monday, 14th May to give these details.

It may be noted that issuing NOC and cancellation of gazette notification is a serious crime.

According to the wakf records, survey numbers 648, 659 and 660 are entered as wakf properties. Mr. Narasing Rao had filed an application in Wakf Board on 1st May 2017 and the letter was sent by the CEO of Wakf Board on 26th May 2017 to the Collector of Malkajgiri to delete the above three survey numbers from the wakf list.

The entire proceedings were done in a very secret way. The NOC was released without sending the file to Chairman of Wakf Board.

Wakf Board had constituted a committee consisting three of its members to probe the case but this committee had not yet submitted its report.

Chairman of the Wakf Board said that all the NOCs released after 1969 would be reviewed and no one would be let off if found guilty.
