Lucknow: Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind on Thursday served a legal notice to the chairman of Shia Central Waqf Board chairman, Wasim Rizvi, citing alleged ‘defamatory’ statements made by the later about madrasas. Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind Maharashtra unit president, Maulana Mustaqeem Ahsan Aazmi demanded Rs. 20 Cr as compensation and asked him to seek unconditional apology from Indian Muslims. He said Rizvi’s letters have hurt the sentiments of Muslims especially scholars. The notice stated that Rizvi has insinuated that Madrassa Education Systems have not contributed to the progress of young Muslims but have in fact created a sense of fundamentalism in them. Ahsan Aazmi said it is unacceptable.
It must be noted that Wasim Rizvi who is busy appeasing Bharatiya Janata Party wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on January 9, claiming that Madrasas bred terrorists and efforts should be made to shift them into mainstream education.
Rizvi had also suggested that madrasas be converted to convent schools which offer an optional subject of Islamic education.
In the notice Rizvi has been asked to pay compensation and render unconditional apology or else he is warned that legal action will be taken.
