“We own about 950 tons of uranium reserves”- Iranian Official

Atomic Energy Organization head of Iran Mr. Ali Akbar Salehi on Wednesday said that Iran owns about 950 tons of uranium reserves.

While delivering a speech about the country’s nuclear programs on Iranian nation TV, Salehi said: “We currently have between 900 and 950 tons of uranium reserves,” which he added is sufficient for his country’s plans regarding nuclear programmes, MEM reported.

Under the directives of his country’s leader Ali Khamenei, he said, a separate Uranium hexaflurode gas plant is being built at a uranium conservation facility in Isfahan to produce the necessary “circulation spare parts” for the production of advanced centrifuges, which are all in accordance with the P5+1 nuclear deal.

In 2015, Iran has signed a deal with the five permanent member states of the UN Security Council and Germany that has allowed Tehran to continue its uranium encrichment by 3.67 percent.

Before signing the comprehensive deal in 2015, the country had been enriching uranium by 20 per cent.
