World community will not keep quiet on Rohingya crisis: British foreign minister

London: Calling for justice on the Rohingya crisis, British foreign minister Jeremy Hunt said the world “won’t let it rest”. He told this after his 2-day visit to Myanmar’s Rakhine state. Hunt is quoted as saying, “Burma needs to know the international community won’t let it rest.” Hunt also met Myanmar’s civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Rejecting the UN probe and calls for the International Criminal Court to investigate, Myanmar has set up an “independent” commission to address the army’s crackdown against the Rohingya.

Hunt said “If we don’t see that process happening, we will use all the tools at our disposal to make sure there is justice… the world is watching.”

Myanmar’s army’s crackdown against the Rohingya has drove out more than 700,000 Rohingya Muslims. They fled to neighbouring Bangladesh, where they joined about 300,000 already in cramped refugee camps, carrying accounts of extrajudicial killings, extreme sexual violence and arson.
