Nigerian held on OLX cheating charge in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The sleuths of Cyber Crimes Police Station, Rachakonda have arrested two online fraudsters identified as Emmauel Ujunwa Okorom (40), a Nigerian national, and Mercy Mawite (39), of Manipur, who were apprehended recently for cheating the complainant to the tune of Rs. 1,60, 000.

Basing on the complaint a case was registered under the relevant provisions of IPC and Information Technology Act.

On a credible information both the accused were apprehended by the cybercrime police from Victoria Memorial Metro Station when they came to meet their lawyer. The accused posted a fake advertisement of sale of a car on OLX platform and claimed that the car is parked at the cargo section of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad.

The complainant insisted to inspect the car physically, but the accused Emmanuel said that the parking charges of Rs. 1, 60,000 have to be paid so that a gate-pass can be prepared on the complainant’s name.

After which Mercy spoke to the complainant impersonating as Airport Manager and shared account details of a Bangalore based bank and asked to transfer the amounts towards parking charges and once the amounts got transferred to the given account, the accused switched off their phones and thereby cheated the victim.
