22 days now, no contact with in-laws in Kashmir: Urmila

Actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar on Friday hit out at the Modi-led-BJP government over the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

While addressing the media, she said that her husband, a businessman who hails from Kashmir has been unable to speak to his parents for the last 22 days.

Urmila’s in-laws live in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The question is not only about abrogating Article 370. It was done in inhuman manner,” said Matondkar, as per leading agency reports.

“My father-in-law and mother-in-law stay there. Both are diabetic, have high blood pressure. Today is the 22nd day, neither me nor my husband have been able to speak to them. We have no clue if they have medicines available at home,” she said.

Urmila, who contested the Lok Sabha election unsuccessfully on Congress ticket married Mohsin Akhtar Mir at her residence in Mumbai in a low-key affair.

Security was beefed up in the region after the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh following the announcement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha on August 5.
